UNVEILING ONE OF ARIZONA’S BEST KEPT SECRETS: CIBECUE FALLS
It’s true though, Cibecue Falls is truly a well-kept secret, and only after living in Arizona did I find out about it, and now so will you!
Also, it’s no secret that in a desert there are also less waterfall spots, so this truly is a rarity in this lush desert! Especially one being so big and beautiful!!
After hiking and swimming here at this beautiful spot, I can truly say that this is the experience of a lifetime, and you deserve to be able to have the experience too.

HOW TO PURCHASE THE PERMIT
Oh, I know what you’re probably thinking….why do I have to get a permit?
Well, permits are in place to ensure the utmost protection of the land, as well to limit the amount of people there at one time.
Personally, both are absolutely great, especially since we want to be able to have such a landmark protected for future generations and to be able to enjoy it without such large crowds as well.
First and foremost, after reading multiple articles and reading YouTube videos, I had come to find out that they no longer have the ability for people to order online or even when they go to park.
For now, the one and only spot to be able to buy a permit at, funny enough, the Carrizo C-Store (Sinclare gas station) close by. The address is: Sinclair, Hwy 76 And Hwy 60, Cibecue, AZ 85911
I’ve also heard that the Sportsman Sporting Goods Store had them as well, just be sure to call in advance to be sure.
Also, just a heads-up, they have changed the ways to get the permits every year or two, so I highly recommend calling before to be sure ALWAYS!
BEST TIMES TO GO
The best time to visit Cibecue Falls is in May or early June before it gets too hot, and before September. Although the waterfall is typically going all year, the temperature is really what to look for!
But be cautious in July and August when it’s monsoon season because the trail will often times be closed due to dangers of flooding and the roads washing out.
Also, be sure to take note that many trails in the reservation remain closed from Labor Day to April.
Of course, it’s always best to know ahead of time if there is anything to be aware of, be sure to check the White Mountain Game and Fish site for any closures, although it’s probably best to try to call, email, or check the weather forecasting because they tend not to update their website often.
GETTING TO CIBECUE FALLS
Part of the reason that Cibecue Falls is so hidden is because of the location, it’s a bit off the beaten path, with not much else around it.
Luckily, Cibecue Falls is totally worth it!!!
So many people have said that a 4-wheel vehicle was needed for the road to the hike, but in my experience if you just drive slow and take your time the road isn’t as extreme as many had said.
Just note that with going on the trail slower, it may also increase the amount of time to get there. But with that extra time, you’ll be able to enjoy the absolutely gorgeous view (I had stopped many times to get out to view anyways! HA)
Although, yes it’s unpaved, and it may be a bit rocky in some parts with a couple holes, it’s completely achievable in a car, but It could have been that they may have repaired the roads for when I had gone.
After 4 miles (6.43 km), you’ll come to a small river crossing. If you don’t have a high clearance vehicle, park on the left just before the river crossing and walk across the river.
If you do have a high clearance vehicle, you can continue to drive across the river to reach the parking lot on the right where the trailhead is located
Please also note that there isn’t much service in the area, so screenshotting your directions, map and having a Road Atlas is best to avoid getting lost.
Also, there is a rest stop off of Hwy 60/AZ-77 on the right just before crossing the bridge. I would recommend making a stop because there are no restroom facilities past this point.
So, the photo on the left shows the view along the road to the left, and the picture on the right shows the first part of the river that the cars that are 4×4 can drive over or car can park and it becomes the first water crossing, on foot!
HIKING CIBECUE FALLS
So, something not many other influencers had not mentioned was that this isn’t just a simple hike, there’s quite a bit more involved..
Such as trekking through water, zigzagging without a “defined” path, and scrambling up and over rocks, which to me means extra fun, but to others it may be a bit of a challenge, so please just be mindful of your skill level.
Speaking of skill level, the specs for this hike are that it’s about 3 miles (4.82 km), is rated moderate, and only gets up to about 623 ft of elevation.
Also, to reference what I had said earlier, I also wanted to clear things up and say, although there isn’t a clearly defined path because of having to trek through the river, it’s still very hard to get lost.
Luckily, just following the river up will lead you right to the waterfall, so no worries about that at all!
However, with all that said, please ensure that you’re bringing the best gear to be able to support your adventure!

One of the most beautiful parts of exploring Cibecue Falls was that it was locating in the Salt River Canyon, showing off the iron reds! It was absolutely astonishing!!
WHAT TO PACK FOR YOUR ADVENTURE
Funny enough, I’ve often found this to build the excitement before the trip itself. Especially when it means that it’s happening!! Woo-hoo!

Although I will say that I actually had my Xero Sandals, but I know some people prefer to have more dedicated water shoes, these are also a great option as well!
