#1. GAINING AND SHIFTING PERSPECTIVES
Oftentimes, we can run racetracks in our minds over and over again, until there’s just no place left to run, and we feel like we’re out of options. But, that’s just our conscious mind!
When we get into the deeper layers of our subconscious mind, we gain insight and a shifting perspective that we may not have even known was there until we slow down and meditate.
During most, if not half of the day, our brains run on autopilot, picking up bits of information here and there. What’s typically on the forefront of our minds is typically for survival and basic priorities, but deeply embedded in the back of our minds is actually extra information that can be tapped into with practicing meditation.
Actually, I’ll get a little bit deeper into the consciousness and subconscious of the mind later in this article!
#2. RELAXING AND RELIEVING INTENSE EMOTIONS + CONNECT TO POSITIVE ONES
If I may ask, are you open to using your imagination? Have you ever seen bricks piled on top of a thin piece of wood? Allow me to give you an analogy as an example; imagine that more bricks are gradually being stacked on top of this piece of wood, and each brick represents all our emotions. Now, I’m sure that your mind is already completing this image, of the wood splitting.
Well, this analogy gives the imagery of what happens if we don’t relieve, relax, and release our emotions regularly. Although emotions are much more advanced and more beautiful than bricks, they sure can feel as heavy as bricks sometimes.
Above all, being able to have a healthy tool, like meditating, can really help us to achieve a safer, easier, and more healing emotional release.
Not to mention that when we release the pain, fear, and sadness; then we’re able to release those to get to our more positive emotions like joy, surprise, and love.
#4. BUILD BETTER TOLERANCE & RESILIENCY
When we’re able to give ourselves a break, but I mean a regular break and a real mind refreshing break, everything seems to just get easier to handle because it isn’t 24’7!!
When building our tolerance and resiliency, the key is to do it well-balanced and often, but NOT always!
It’s kind of like building any form of muscle, rest and recovery are all a part of building the desired outcome. However, this desired outcome is tolerance and resiliency, and building that is through deep and mindful rest through meditation.
PERSONAL STORY TIME:
When I was living in my van traveling around the United States, I specifically remember this pivotal moment when I awoke out of the van and found out that my car wouldn’t start, my check engine light came on, my water had spilled everywhere, my relationship was failing, and I was running out of money.
Immediately after pulling myself out of the start of a panic attack, I took a short walk away from van, stared at it, and had an epiphany.
The stress doesn’t simply go away, we just get better at handling it, build tolerance, deepen our resilience, find tools that help us to strengthen.
Then, I began taking meditation, yoga, and other healing modalities even more seriously. I’ve now rarely, if not, ever had a panic attack since then.
Rest assured, I’m sure that you’ll also find peace and serenity with it too.
#5. INCREASE AWARENESS
So, remember earlier when I talked about deepening the subconscious mind? Well, our subconscious is the layers of our mind that have not been brought to the surface of our consciousness. When we are able to have perspectives, habits, and behaviors make their way to our conscious mind, they then also come into our center of our awareness.
Simply put, our awareness is knowledge or perception of a situation or fact. -dictionary.com
As our awareness increases, so does our ability to change, rewire, or alter ourselves for the better.
Remember earlier when I had said that you deserve it? Well, it still rings true! But you now know the ways in which you deserve it!
If you do find yourself needing some accountability, maybe find a friend, or someone to check in with as you practice.
Looking for some of great tools to help you meditate?
Prayer beads
Although these may sound religious, they don’t necessarily have to be. In fact, there are so many ways to use them!! I’ve often found myself holding in stillness on each bead, just taking a breath in and out, then moving onto the next bead.
Personally, I enjoy the wood beads the most because they are lightweight and can even be worn as a bracelet, taken with you everywhere!
Floor Cushion Pillow
Typically, I’m one to lay in bed, but many people fall asleep and tend to prefer sitting up, so these round pillows are perfect for supporting the seated position.
This specific cushion is lined with sustainable cork and cotton, and then filled with buckwheat! Which is super sustainable, total ECO-Win!
Eye mask
Something as simple as removing our sense of sight, can allow for us to heighten our other senses of hearing and even feeling. Which allows us to sink into our meditation even deeper.
Personally, I love the sustainability and feel of a purely organic bamboo material based eye mask. Just like this one!
Ear buds
What’s great about using headphones/earbuds is that it can block out other noises, and allows us to sink a deep deeper into our meditations.
Most people have earbuds, but I’ve found this specific pair to fit my ears the best, they’re waterproof, and have a great warranty program.
However you choose to meditate and however frequently, know that it’s always there for you as a tool, whenever you need it.
